basically AI is a small, independent company building and studying artificial intelligence.

We started with a desire to make interesting things and understand how they work. That curiosity still shapes what we choose to build, the questions we ask, and the work we share.

We're not organized around one model size or one grand prediction. Our work includes Pebble, an open language model family, and VOID, our AI safety research initiative. They approach AI from different directions, and both give us something concrete to learn from.

We want to be thoughtful about the technology and straightforward about its limits. There is enough hype in AI already. We'd like to contribute some good work.
